Abelardo Morell

He uses a tent-like camera to project what is in front of him onto the ground and then takes the photograph. In the photo above, I found it interesting how there is a contrast in both size and texture between the petals placed on the ground and the flower as the subject.

When I saw this photo, first I think about the camera we learned in Digital Photo 1 that flip the image upside down and left to right. Because of that, I can understood easy how this photo was taken. I think the photographer close the curtain and make the room very dark, and then made a small hole on the wall or window, so the outside view can be projected on the wall inside the room.

This work is also very interesting. I think maybe the artist put a thin paper on a frame, then place the flower behind it, and also used a flash from the back. It looks similar to the “tent” thing we talked a little in class, where the object that is close looks more clear, and the one far away looks more light and blurry. I like taking still life photo, so I want to try this next time.
